RSS feeders

This isn't flocked though it's under construction, because this is something that is USEFUL, though still something that I don't fully know how to use.

How to keep track of people that go everywhere.

Well, if you go to firefox options, it is possible to have more than one page come up as a homepage - the addresses just need to be separated with a |

Syndicated feeds on journals can help follow people on other journals - things that only have public posts.

There are also private RSS feeder programs for if you don't have a paid account - all LJ services restrict that feature for paid.

But RSS feeders only do public posts.

Or do they?

Firefox livebookmarks, can handle private and flocked posts - provided that your logged in the browser at the time. It's how I mod one of the communities I'm a maintainer at. My job isn't to read all the entries just check for flocking - and the livebookmarks will tell me if I'm logged out if there's entries showing that aren't meant to be showing - and if I'm logged in, all the latest entries that I can browse through for personal pleasure.

But firefox bookmarks aren't good for being able to follow a lot of people - I use them with places that either get a lot of posts, where I'm only expecting to be interested in one for every 20 ( a significantly different approach to my flist).

There isn't a limit to how many you can add to livefeeder - extra entries will become part of a dropdown menu.

Others have pointed out RSS feeders.

Seems an excellent choice if you want an online feeder for all those various blogs.

But it still can't handle flocked stuff.

But!

Someone just pointed me out a trick for accessing entries that you would have access to, outside of livejournal.

http://www.michaelhanscom.com/eclecticism/2004/07/08/reading-protected-livejournal-entries-via-rss

Basically you go:
http://yourusername:password@www.livejournal.com/users/SyndicatedJournalName/data/rss?auth=digest

And basically the RSS feeder will log in with your username and password and then be able to syndicate entries.

However since this is all using third party products, your password is now likely to be at risk. =/

It won't give the person access to anything that they didn't already have access too, but I can see it causing problems... ^_^;; Gives more reason for careful pruning of friends and filtering within friends.

The only way to truly protect your data is not to put it online.
